The Toronto Enterprise Fund offers three grant funding streams to non-profit social enterprises.
Business Plan Competition
Our annual Business Plan Competion offers seed funding for one year toward the start up of non-profit social enterprises based in Toronto that provide employment, or training leading to employment, for people who are socially marginalized.
Mixed Capital Opportunities Fund
Our Mixed Capital Opportunities Fund (Mixed Cap) offers a grant/loan hybrid up to $30,000, in partnership with Alterna Savings. Mixed Cap is designed for existing social enterprises that have a business opportunity or expansion plans, and job creation potential, particularly for people who are socially marginalized.
Our operating grants support a portfolio of non-profit social enterprises that create employment for people who are socially marginalized, through three-year renewable funding agreements (see Who We Fund). Seed-funded enterprises are eligible to apply for three-year funding at the end of their first year. We make a long-term commitment to our portfolio of enterprises, some of which we have supported for more than fifteen years. We encourage these enterprises to increase their reliance on sales revenue and decrease their reliance on grants, by reducing our operating grant each year. TEF-funded enterprises establish business performance and social outcome goals, and are reviewed against those goals every year.
